Kids' clothing charity store opens in Hobart
[Mon 01/02/2010 11:04:40]
Save the Children’s first ever Tasmanian clothing store for kids in Hobart was opened Saturday 30 January by actor and comedian John Xintavelonis.
Although the shop, located on Hobart’s Criterion Street, has been run by the charity since 2005, it was rebranded as a store selling second-hand children’s clothes, toys, and books in January 2010. Proceeds from the sales of merchandise go to help vulnerable children and their families at home and overseas.
“We’ve received heaps of fantastic donations from local schools and the community, but we’re always looking for more,” said Elly Harris from Save the Children Tasmania.
“The funds we raise from selling children’s toys and clothes are used to fund programs in education, health and child protection.”
Harris said the rebranding of the shop was made possible with the support of K&D Warehouse, which donated all the shop paint and shelving as well as a team of Save the Children volunteers who toiled long hours to complete the refurbishment on time.
“We’re very grateful to everyone who donated time and funds to ensure the store opened on time,” said Harris.
Save the Children is the world’s largest independent child rights development organisation, making a difference to children’s lives in more than 100 countries including Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.
