Winners of The Edge announced at Australian International Furniture Fair
The Edge awards stretch across four categories of Student, Commercial, Concept and Green and the competition featured work from over 50 new and emerging designers from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand.
Rowan Turnham from Melbourne TAFE took home the top honour in the Student category with his Short Black Connection Coffee Table made from recycled Australian Blackwood, while Stuart Faulkner won the Green award for his Felix Stool, which flat-packs and is designed around sustainable design principles.
Paphop Wongpanich captured the jury’s attention with his Star Table and 1974 Chair, which saw him awarded the winner of both the Commercial and Concept awards.
“We never had so many designers and so many pieces in The Edge ever before,” says exhibition curator Uli Hasel.
“There is something for everyone from the design conscious to the family home. Facets still feature strongly and students have been working on new projects using rattan/cane and re-invented/re-created new products from old.”
The judging panel for The Edge awards included Anita Stasionis from luxury design retailer Space Furniture, Alexandra Graham from Green Home NSW, Wendy Moore from Home Beautiful magazine and Marc Schamburg from high-end furniture design firm Schamburg + Alvisse.
The 2010 Australian International Furniture Fair was held from Wednesday February 3 to Friday February 5.
