With construction set to commence at The Workshops Rail Museum in Ipswich, Queensland, the toy train track is set to break the Guinness World Record held by Japan.
The Thomas-themed toy train track, built using Thomas the Tank Engine Fisher-Price TrackMaster pieces, will measure 2.014 kilometres when completed, making it 364 metres longer than the previously-held record.
The toy train track has been engineered using 10,197 pieces of track, includes 40 Thomas & Friends engines, 40 stations and will wind its way past some of Australia’s most famous landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Uluru, Flinders Street Station, Kangaroo Island, and the Big Pineapple.
The record-breaking toy train track will be on display to the general public at The Workshops Rail Museum on Friday November 5 and Saturday November 6.
Meagan Reay, marketing director at Mattel Australia says everyone is very excited about Thomas’s world record attempt.
“Thomas is the most loved train in the world, so it’s fitting that he should continue to set new records on a global stage.
“The track is a phenomenal feat and we thank The Workshops Rail Museum and model builder Ray Murphy for their help to create this record-breaker,” she says.
“Being the largest Day Out With Thomas live events partner in Australia, we’re delighted to host this world record at The Workshops Rail Museum ahead of our annual Day Out With Thomas event, starting on December 26 2010,” adds Andrew Moritz, director of The Workshops Rail Museum.
