Pigeonhole celebrates third anniversary

The quirky, Perth-based retail and wholesale outfit Pigeonhole has celebrated its third birthday and its quick ascent into the limelight with five stores, an online shop and blog, and a café in the pipeline.

"It feels like just yesterday that I found that tiny shop for lease in Bon Marche Arcade and entered into a crash course of plastering walls, jack hammering and opening a shop on two credit cards," says founder Johann Kim.

Pigeonhole opened the brand's inaugural Bon Marche Arcade store on October 6 2007 and today, the company boasts a total of five stores with a Pigeonhole Vintage store joining the original shop in Bon Marche Arcade, two premises in Perth's Shafto Lane and a small store in London Court.

In July 2009 Kim established Cabin Fever, Pigeonhole's third premise in Bon Marche Arcade and a creative space where people were encouraged to read, relax and let their creative juices run wild in the faux log cabin.

The space was used for workshops, exhibitions, parties and live shows and is currently under construction and set to re-emerge as a dedicated Pigeonhole café and gallery.

The Pigeonhole team consists of over 30 staff and volunteers under the age of 30 and designs around 1000 products, which the company wholesales to 500 stores across the world.

Each store stocks a noteworthy collection of stationery, jewellery, homewares, accessories and quirky, one-of-a-kind finds from Pigeonhole designers as well as imported goods from designer labels in Sweden, Denmark, Seoul and Finland.
