Oxfam's Fairtrade Easter sales spike

Oxfam has recorded a massive jump in sales of fair trade Easter products with more Australians choosing ethically produced chocolate eggs and bunnies.
Figures obtained after the long weekend show an increase of 55 per cent on last year’s sales.
Oxfam director of trading Nadine Silverberg says the spike shows more of us are consciously making a choice to help others.
“It’s really heartening to see so many Australians choosing to make a difference through their purchases this Easter.”
It comes as a new report reveals just three per cent of the world’s chocolate supply is produced without child labour.
“Buying chocolate and other products with the Fairtrade logo is the best way of ensuring the products are free from child labour,” Silverberg says.
“This Easter, people [loved] Oxfam’s Fairtrade and organic chocolate eggs, bunnies, and hand-crafted papier mache chicks filled with chocolate buttons as well as our usual Fairtrade chocolate bars. Some of our chocolate is also gluten-free, ensuring more people can enjoy the great taste and assist farmers in developing countries.
“Buying Fairtrade Easter items is a simple and delicious way of helping others and making a difference,” she adds.
