A Tamworth based Kmart merchandise manager who has helped her store record triple-digit growth has won the title of Young Retailer of the Year despite fierce competition.
Jennifer Skeahan-Heugh was one of 100 retailers to enter the National Retail Association (NRA) event and beat out 22 other finalists to take the prize.
Among Skeahan-Heugh’s achievements is a 60 per cent increase in customer compliment cards for outstanding customer service.
NRA executive director Gary Black says she is an example of the wonderful careers young people can have in the industry.
“Through her professional development and her work record, Jennifer has shown a genuine commitment to her customers, her employer and her own career in retail,” he says.
“She is currently completing a Bachelor of Business double major in human resource management and management. She has also undertaken a number of internal management training programs with Kmart.
“At the age of 23, Jennifer has already ensured herself a long and successful career. She is living proof of the value of retail as a stepping stone for young Australians into prosperous careers.”
