Douglas & Hope releases artist plate collection

[Mon 14/11/2011 04:18:13]

A limited edition series of melamine plates commissioned by Douglas and Hope and decorated by a diverse group of artists is available for purchase.

Designer and owner of the online store Cath Hope invited five artists who work across a variety of mediums such as painting, street art and illustration, to take part in the project.

“Over the years I have tried to collect artwork, always buying pieces that I loved aesthetically and never anything particularly expensive,” she says.

“The idea for this range of artist plates has been with me for a few years and when I started designing melamine ranges, the idea came to me again.

“I am an extremely practical person, everything needs to be utilitarian so the combination of art, plate and melamine seemed perfect – something that looks fantastic, can be collected, hung on the wall or eaten off, and is inexpensive.”

Hope’s brief to the creative individuals was to do whatever they wanted and the resulting images range from a hamburger to a bird from artists including Dawn Tan and Miranda Skoczek.

“I approached all of the artists involved because I loved their work and each individual has very distinct work.

“I work and have lived in Fitzroy and ghostpatrol and miso have been doing street art in the area for years, I love what they do and they have probably subliminally brainwashed me. Miranda Skoczek’s paintings are exquisite, I adore them; Dawn Tan was perfect as she only illustrates food and Dylan Martorells work is fantastic,” Hope says of the artists she chose.

New plates will be added to the collection in the coming months.
