Design Mode International (DMI) is the new distributor for Dutch brand Royal VKB after taking over from Milk and Sugar, which wants to concentrate on developing its own brands.
The North Sydney based wholesaler decided to take on the kitchen and giftware brand because it fit DMI’s customer base and portfolio.
“Royal VKB has a funky and useful collection of kitchen and giftware products that are different to the other brands offered by DMI, innovative thinking makes the simple kitchen products interesting and exciting,” says DMI director Craig McCredie.
“[It is] still a young company with a lot of ideas and trying to find solutions to the issues we face in the kitchen and home entertaining environment. [Its] philosophy is to make the kitchen a social environment and a place for interaction and not just an area for food preparation.”
The arrangement between the companies was a smooth transition as McCredie has been friends and colleagues with Milk and Sugar owner Peter Sinclair for years.
DMI will exhibit Royal VKB for the first time at the Reed Gift Fair at Darling Harbour next month. Products will include new designs and old favourites.
McCredie says he has big plans for the newest member of the DMI portfolio.
“Our plan for the brand is quite similar to that of Milk and Sugar to continue to focus on the distribution to design, gift and kitchenware stores.
“We would also like to expand the distribution to new DMI customers and possibly into a department store. As Royal VKB expands its product offering this may open up more distribution channels,” he adds.
